More Ancient Than Dinosaurs

They were said to have appeared in the Devonian Period (406 - 306 Million Years Ago), even before dinosaurs walked the earth.

A complex array of lenses gives the dragonfly a 360 degree view.

The first photo is so artistically pleasing! It's even possible to see the little head antennae there!

And the closeup is a most amazing photo too. I never cease to be amazed at your photos. Beautiful.

Do you know if their eyes are similar in construction to a fly's eyes?

dweezeljazz, the compound eye is the visual organ for insects and some crustaceans.

These were "lucky" shots. Subject was most cooperative :)

"lucky"?....i dont think so. Excellent shot, DM!

ps. so, what exactly did you do to get this dragonfly to be so cooperative?

Oh wow.. that kind of super close up shot is probably gonna cost a lot to setup. Lens, camera and cooperative dragonfly.

Incidentally it is said Cockroaches lived since the beginning of life and their evolution has yet to change. *stomp stomp stomp*

Persistant buggers they be.

moggie, trade secret... hehehe

izzo, in a way i'm glad cockroaches did not get into an evolutionary response to all the stomping ie. growing bigger!!
