An unexpected opportunity + friendly subject + camera on hand = best kingfisher shot to-date.
Just a mere 25 feet away and not bothered with what the fuss is about below:
A few moments after this shot, it flew off to intercept something in mid-flight. It caught something in its beak and perched higher on a nearby tree. Milo's shots on his super-tele managed to make out that it was a lizard in its beaks! Photo of the kingfisher with the lizard in its beak can be viewed here -> Dreamer's Cove (Meet the King).

those are beautiful photos, Divemuster. He really seems to be posing for you in that second shot!
Hi Tony... thanks for dropping in. Do drop in on my friend's blog to check out what the kingfisher caught.

this jackass didn't laugh ... kekekekeke. super super pic
The laughter was on our side this time round... wakakaka!! <- Laughter of insane happiness.
oh wow!!! both your and Milo's shots are amazing. I would never have guessed such a bird would take on a lizard that size compared to himself. Birds eat a lot, but I'm 'shocked' :) Poor little lizardy eh. Thank you Divemuster
Hi DweezelJazz! I didn't know kingfishers wld go after lizards until this incident. As their name suggests, I had thought they only live on fishes.
I love those birds, you really got some nice snaps.
Hi Sanna! Yes they have very striking colors and I have been trying to get a good shot for years.
I know the feeling, there are birds that I keep seeing but never get a good snap of. It's great when you finally get the chance. =)
What an amazing shot, he is such a beautiful bird!! :)
